Halloween Play!

Last night the Law and Drama Society put on a short Halloween play. Another student group, the OWLS, or Older Wiser Law Students, do a trick-or-treating event at the law school for the children of students, faculty, and staff. This year we did a 15 minute play as part of that event.

In the Trial of the Big Bad Wolf I played Little Red Riding Hood!

This our director Dana and the Prosecuting Attorney Jason. (Danza, I bet you like what you see..)

We put on the play on our court room...

This is the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf, played by April. Yes, she's a lovely girl that did a hilarious imitation of a little wannabe gangsta boy. She had a fake grill made from a silver gum wrapper.

This is Granny Hood played by the brilliant Jen.

Here are the 3 Little Pigs. RJ, the dude, was hilarious. He has a southern twang anyway, and he played it up beautifully.

All in all, it was a success. I don't have a very good picture of the Big Bad Wolf, unfortunately. I did hear one parent on the way out saying that their child was freaked out by him. He used a wonderful wolfy voice that did startle me a couple of times, truth be told.

Anyway, it was great fun. The last time I did a kid's play I was a kid. It's fun to be goofy and over the top and feel like a kid again. And the kids were adorable. We had all ages - from babies dressed like flowers (so freaking cute) to kids old enough that they were somewhat annoyed with being there.

Now, back to the adult world. Le sigh. (Credit for the french sighing goes to my friend Chloe.)

The weekend, and how I fought Target and won

It was a nice, calm weekend. Before my guitar lesson Friday I went to Relish and bought these coasters:
They are lovely, while the table they are sitting on is not. Then Friday night we got Chinese takeout and just generally relaxed.

Saturday the husband had an all-day Masonic event and I went to a class that is designed to refresh one's memory regarding the contents of the upcoming MPRE exam. After that horrorshow ended I went to Target to get an idea about soft slipcover prices. I really want a green and white patterned one that looks like the love seat I have in one of the pictures in an earlier post. But I'm having trouble finding that. Well, Target had a red one and some cute light aqua and red pillows. And I found myself wanting to put them in my cart, hurry through the check out line, and hope my husband wouldn'tt notice the sofa going from brown to red. See, we're not rolling in the money at this time, so he's giving me disappointed looks when I spend money.

I pouted, but put down the slipcover and the pillows. I then went to the clothing department and promptly found a yellow coat that I wanted. But I put it down too and sulked out of the store. It felt horrible. I thought being good might actually feel good. It didn't. BUT...then it did. On the drive home I started to realize I didn't want a red and aqua living room anyway. I think the green and white would be better. But I realize I did want the yellow coat, and I need one for the season.

Moral of the story: it is wise to leave the store and contemplate the would-be purchases. Some will no longer be desirable, and the ones that are still desirable would probably be good purchases.

Tea parties, inspiration walls, and colors

These images are all from rooms i heart on decor8.

In my next house (I'll be moving in the spring of 2009) I want a sunroom that looks like this, so I can have girly tea parties!

I like the green in these next three pictures. On the second and third one, I like how there are a few greens that don't exactly match.

I totally need an inspiration wall in my office!

I have begun to figure out colors I am not drawn to:
  1. black and white as primary color scheme
  2. purple, burgandy, or hunter green (shudder to think)
  3. gray as dominant color
I seem to be attracted to:
  1. light and/or bright greens
  2. almost all shades of blue
  3. red or pink accent pieces
  4. browns, not so much tan except for rooms that are primarily tan and white
  5. lots of white, not so much off white
  6. punches of yellow
Fun stuff!

First batch of pretty things...

Ok, here are my first finds. As explained earlier, I want to decorate my house, and Danza suggested I collect pictures of things I like, to get inspired.

I found all these on http://absolutelybeautifulthings.blogspot.com/.

I love everything about this. I love the overlapping pictures sitting there, I love the books, the teacups with flowers. Love it all.

I want chandeliers everywhere! Over my dining room table! Over my bed! Over my toilet! Ok, maybe not over the toilet. And I like this table. And I like the idea of brown and white. Which is good, because right now I have plenty of brown...

Inspired!

Yesterday afternoon I went to Danza's for coffee, to catch up with what's going on in her life and all that good stuff. She is so totally inspiring! Her home is just beautiful. And it isn't like she has endless funds and hired some decorator. She does have quality items in her home, but what makes it beautiful is that it is a reflection of her. Everything is chosen and placed with care. Everything speaks to who she is and what she finds beautiful. And the attention to detail is wonderful too. She knows how lovely lit candles are on a rainy afternoon.

I told her that I want to spend some time beautifying my own home, and of course asked for her help. She gave me some websites to check out, and then my assignment is to send her what I like. I will be doing that via this blog. And I'm going to try to print things out and keep a notebook for myself too. Should be fun.

First, I took some pictures of things I do like in my home...

I'm not in love with this table, but I do like how I have it adorned. One picture is of me and the husband, the other is a picture of me and my parents and my brother. The "flowers" there are way too old, from Danza's yard, but I still like them. ANd they are in some sort of old crock type thing. And there are 3 votives there that need tea lights, but are otherwise fantastic.

This picture is kind of blurry, but this a bookshelf that I like. It almost looks messy in this picture but I really don't think it is in real life...hmmm. Oh, Danza helped with this too. Sheesh.

This is just an old rocking chair with a blanket and a pillow that were my mothers. Not a big deal, but it is one of the things I look at in my house that does please me.

This is my mantel, which also makes me happy. These are pictures of my family. There are small frames with some really old pictures. I want to add pictures of my in-laws, probably will take down one of the ones of the husband and me. But they are notorious for taking crappy pictures, so I have to find a good one first!

Ok, now for what I want to change...

The chihuahua is cute, pretty much everything else in thie pitures sucks. The two armchairs are probably there to stay though. Any ideas on making not so hideous? The couch needs a slipcover. And Danza suggested that I paint the two tables in this picture white, so I'm going to try that. My house tends to be dark because it's a log cabin with not so big windows. It's an older home.

Oh, and I don't cook so I won't be imitating Danza's pictures of food. Or will I???

Alright, it's just a salad. Not too impressive. But I did make my own salad dressing! Too bad it was so heavy on the garlic that my husband wouldn't come near me for the rest of the night...

First blog!

Hello! I am excited to see how blogging works out for me. I've made a couple half assed attempts in the past, but let's see if we can do something that at least some people might enjoy looking at!

My inspiration is my friend Danza, who has a blog that I love - available at http://doozerdanza.blogspot.com.

This is Danza and me at a bridal shower. She's so perty!

I am in a place of contentment right now that I am greatly enjoying. I'm halfway through this semester of law school, so only 1 and a half left. I've sort of figured out this law school gig, and I have an awesome job lined up, so my stress level is much lower than it has been for a while now.

I also am in a great place spiritually. I am feeling the love, man! I've got a great church, a Godly husband, and I'm making time for nightly meditation.

Oh, and I got my house cleaned over my fall break, which was last week, so that's awesome.

I have to study for the MPRE over the next two weeks, which is the ethics portion of the bar exam. I know it sounds weird that you have to study for an ethics exam, and even weirder that it's multiple choice, but it's true. It's not just common sense, like you can't give an indigent client money for a meal. That doesn't sound unethical to me, but according to the canons of ethics it is. See?

Ok, now for a couple pictures.

This is my wonderful husband. We were at a local fair type thing. He is a Mason, and at his lodge this year he is in charge of this program that they administer at fairs, free of charge, so we were doing that. They give out these kits for parents that are to be used if the child ever comes up missing. It includes a DVD interview of the kid that can be put on the news or whatever, they take their height and weight, and they send the parents home with a kit they can use to collect DNA. I'm not really sure why they need the DNA. I know that allows you to prove it really is your kid, maybe they always make parents do that or something when their kid is found?

This is me at my 29th birthday celebration, with two of my law school girlfriends. We were karaoking. AWESOME!

That's it for now. More later!
